Lot 48 , A George I crossbanded walnut chest, W.3ft 8in. D.2ft 1in. H.2ft 1in.
A George I crossbanded walnut chest, of two short and two long drawers, the upper drawers with concealed drawers behind, on bracket feet, W.3ft 8in. D.2ft 1in. H.2ft 1in.
Estimate £500-700
Unusual generous proportions of this chest might suggest that it was once the base of a chest on chest, however the top does look to be old and is made of four quatres or veneer with feather banding and further cross banding and shows a good rich colour, old cracks and splits and signs of old wear and tear. Handles and escutcheons look to be original. The loop from one handle is detached but still present. Drawers are veneered in sections ranging from 3-12ins in width, these have faded to different tones giving not an unattractive result. Sides in good condition as are the feet.Overall a good clean piece of furrniture.
