Lot 495 , A French bronze mantel timepiece modelled as a Chinaman riding an elephant, 16in.
A French bronze mantel timepiece modelled as a Chinaman riding an elephant, with eight day movement, 16in.
Estimate £300-400
Very heavy and rather crudely cast bronze of an even brass tone, essentially in fair to good condition but with a pronounced building up of white polish in all of the recesses and cavities, large five leafed sprig at the bottom has a hole in the centre implying that there was once a flowerhead fitting, 8 day timepiece movement accessible from the rear door - this has been twisted out of line but otherwise appears complete but not going, enamelled dial with one or two small dirt marks but otherwise appears good, overall a fair piece in need of some cosmetic attention.
Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
