Lot 254 , A Davenport Egyptian revival supper set, c.1820,

A Davenport Egyptian revival supper set, c.1820,

A Davenport Egyptian revival supper set, c.1820, each piece painted in black enamel with imitation Egyptian hieroglyphics and figures, on a pale terracotta ground, comprising five lidded dishes and fourteen 23cm plates
Estimate £300-500

Comprising:
fourteen plates
pair of triangular vegetable dishes and covers
an oval two handled tureen and cover
pair of semi-elliptical tureens and covers
The central oval dish with pedestal foot has a shallow under rim chip to the cover and a firing crack around the join of the body to the foot which is only visible underneath, one of the larger curved dishes has a bizarre small hole to one side of the cover which on inspection from the interior has become a larger splinter chip but there are no cracks emanating from it. Of the supper plates four have splinter chips to the exposed edge of the rim and all of the plates have some slight flakes to the black enamel on the edges but nothing too serious, the whole service - some of the plates have heavier crazing than others whereas the dishes largely ring true as do some of the plates.
