A Chinese zhangmu 'dragon' chest, late 19th / early 20th century, the hinged lid and front panel carved in high relief with dragons chasing a pearl amid clouds, the lid additionally with four character inscription, the back panel and sides carved with bats, the back panel with two shou characters and unusually a frieze drawer at the back, brass mounted corners and lockplate and hinges, W.79cm H.76cm D.47cm

There is shrinkage to the top and base panels. There are a few fine splits to the panels at the corners and there is small chip to the left upper edge of the stand, otherwise good condition.
