A Chinese transitional wucai jar and cover, c.1650,
with typical unglazed base, painted with pheasants amid flowers and rockwork, the cover with fish amid flowers and rockwork,

Condition:
The jar has a 8 mm x 7 mm chip to the rim with a hairline crack extending down across the shoulder and approximately a quarter of the way down the body. Around from this is a further hairline crack extending down from the rim through to one of the magnolia flowers above a pheasant. Typical glaze imperfections in manufacture. There’s a surface glaze chip approximately a quarter of the way from the base between some foliage on one side. The cover has an 8 mm x 5 mm chip to the edge with an associated firing crack and there are a few minor glazed chips to the edge of the cover. No restoration detected otherwise in reasonable condition.
