A Chinese huanghuali and brass mounted four section picnic basket, 19th century, with four rectangular stacking trays and a cover, the shaped high handle with pierced and ruyi head scrolled brackets, width 36cm height 31cm

Has probably been restored within the last 20 - 30 years, the base panel on the bottom tray has some slight shrinkage and slightly bowed, the second from bottom tray has a open gap to the two panel base, the third from the bottom tray again has another open gap between the two panel base, the fourth from bottom tray has a slightly more protruding base panel with some old filler around slight shrinkage on the edges, within the fourth from bottom tray is an internal fitting tray and the top panel to the cover is slightly bowed downwards with some filler around some shrinkage on the edges, the colour of the wood is darker on the interior where it has been kept from the light, there is a metal rod which goes through the cover holding the cover in position, the T shaped bar on the end as been re-soldered may be a complete replacement all together.
