Lot 335 , A Chinese hongmu Kang table, 19th century, W.48cm L.82cm H.25cm, old restorations
A Chinese hongmu Kang table, 19th century, of rectangular form, the frieze carved in low relief with chi-dragons, on four scrolled legs, W.48cm L.82cm H.25cm, old restorations
Estimate £200-300
Provenance: William Moule and his family, who were Christian missionaries in Ningpo (Ningbo) and Shanghai in the late 19th and early 20th century; thence by descent.
There are some old age splits to the top, all of the legs have been partially repaired and re-pinned in position, a couple with some filler around the area, it is possible that the frieze has been slightly reduced in size as the moulding on the very edge of the apron and the legs doesn't quite match in thickness in places, there is general scuffing around the scrollwork on the feet, otherwise in reasonable condition.
