A Chinese doucai vase, 18th century, of archaistic form, finely painted to the central band with the emblems of the eight immortals amid clouds, interspersed by four raised 'fins', between bands of bats, with borders of ruyi-heads and lambrequin, 23.5cm, handles ground off, repairs

Provenance: purchased by the vendor's mother from an antique dealer in Rochester, Kent, between the Wars, probably in the 1930s. She paid £2-3 for it, the equivalent of her husband's weekly wage.



Neck has been broken into two large sections and re-stuck with some slight losses and flaking around the area, the neck formerly had two handles which have been ground off and later painted orange to disguise the patches. Some of the green and pale brown enamelling has degraded and flaked away most noticeably around the top rim, otherwise occasional minor scratching to the glaze.
