A Chinese blue and white gu-shaped vase or brush pot, Transitional period, mid 17th century, the upper register painted with insects and birds amid fruiting and flowering branches, the central band with lingzhi fungus and scrolls, the lower register with stylised flowers and scrolls, unglazed base, height 24.5cm, diameter 18.5cm, firing crack to base

There are a few shallow glazed chips to the edge of the vase / brush pot, some heavy scratching and wear to the interior and some occasional scuffs and scratches to the exterior, the unglazed base of the vessel has a large firing crack with some filler to the underside which is a visible crack across the inside the base extending slightly upwards to the side visible on the interior and exterior, there is a very shallow chip loss to the very edge of the unglazed foot otherwise in reasonable condition for its age.
