A Chinese bamboo 'river landscape' inscribed brushpot, bitong, 19th century, carved in relief with figures on boats in a mountainous river landscape, with figures in pavilions looking outward, three column inscription verso, on three shaped feet, reddish brown patina, 12cm high, a few small wormholes

A very similar ‘landscape’ bamboo brushpot dated to the Qing dynasty appears in Spink & Son Ltd, London, Bamboo & Wood Carvings of China and the East catalogue (number 40) edited by Roger Keverne, November 1979.

Condition:
Overall of a light reddish brown tone, five cracks starting to run up from the foot rim along with smaller hairline cracks also from the foot rim, small what look to be worm holes on the inside of the rim and running down inside the body of the pot.
