A Chinese Straits enamelled porcelain four tiered box and cover, Teng-kat, late 19th century, unusually with four different ground colours decorated with lotus flowers, height 25cm

From the collection of a Hong Kong Tea Merchant who worked for Jardine Matheson & Co Ltd, before 1940.

All of the four sections of the box and cover has some glaze losses to the handles on the edge, there is flaking to the blue enamel on the blue section and cover of the vessel and there is a crack to the foot of the yellow section and a small splinter chip next door to it, there is firing crack to the edge of the pink glaze section and real variations in the colour of the ground from pale orange to pink all the way round, there is some wear to the bases of the various sections, in general there are a number of minor firing imperfections typical of these wares.
