A Chinese Longquan celadon ‘Gu Shi’ bowl, 15th century,
the exterior incised with lines in imitation of chrysanthemum petals, the interior impressed ‘Gu Shi’, surrounded by incised flower petals.

Gu shi Cheng was a famous Longquan kiln operator from Dayao during the mid Ming period. Similar bowls and dishes bearing this mark were found in the Lena Shoal Cargo, however this bowl does not appear to have come from any shipwreck.

Condition:
There is some wear and scratching to the glaze consistent with age and use and there is a 4.2 cm hairline crack extending downwards from the rim. There is a small curved hairline crack on the edge of the foot, otherwise in good condition.
