Lot 136 , A C.F. Martin & Co of New York parlour guitar, size 2½, overall length 36.5in.
A C.F. Martin & Co of New York parlour guitar, size 2 1/2, in original case, overall length 36.5in.
Estimate £300-500
There is no serial number present on the guitar, the face of the guitar has the odd scratch and scuff consistent with use and age, the guitar needs completely re-stringing and is missing a number of the pegs at the bottom, there is a couple of splits to the rosewood veneer on the base of the side of guitar and a number of scuffs to the underside, at the top of the neck at the join to the head there is a section of banding lacking, the tightening pegs on the head of the guitar are ivory and steel, the steel is rusted and is leaking through the ivory in places, one of the ivory pegs is cracked, these will probably need replacing, there is some slight 'chewing' to the cogs of the pegs, otherwise the guitar seems in a reasonable condition for its age, the case has one replacement hinge, has some splits and wear to the ebonising and there is some slight old worm damage to the bottom of the case.
