Lot 173 , A 19th century silver mounted shasqua, probably Caucasian, sword 35in.

A 19th century silver mounted shasqua, probably Caucasian, sword 35in.

A 19th century silver mounted shasqua, probably Caucasian, with matching silver mounted leather scabbard, sword 35in.
Estimate £200-300

We believe that this is not a Caucasuan shasqua but infact a Persian silver mounted sword with has a later pommel to the end of the handle.

Average to poor condition. The top of the handle may well be a replacement as there is a repair around the collar and the decoration differs. The tip on one side of the guard? has broken off and the lower section of the guard applque is not flusg with the scabbard and the tips are dented. There are numerous ding, light scratches and nicks to the mount in general. The blade had rust and pit spots and some tiny nicks along the edge. The leather is generally sound but with some visible wear.
