Lot 162 , A 19th century French gilt brass alarum carriage clock, H.5.5in.

A 19th century French gilt brass alarum carriage clock, H.5.5in.

A 19th century French gilt brass alarum carriage clock, with engraved gorge case and unsigned movement striking on a bell, H.5.5in.
Estimate £500-700

Case has a slightly matted effect to the gilding and shows signs of wear but we would suggest that it has probably been re-gilt at some point, right side glass sits slightly proud of the case, movement looks matted may need a clean otherwise intact and running, top plate looks original, no marking or numbering on the case other than R & A inscribed to the edge of the top plate, small soldered repair to one of the strikers to the bell, main dial in good condition, alarum dial with a number of hairline cracks and probably a later hand. No key present.
Movement is going but not tested for time keeping.
We think this is the original escapement however please do request further photographs if you require
