A 19th century French Henri II style three piece ormolu and porcelain clock garniture, 8.25in.

A 19th century French Henri II style three piece ormolu and porcelain clock garniture, comprising mantel clock with movement signed E & E Emanuel, The Hard, Portsea, 11in., a pair of four light candelabra, 11.5in. and a pair of near matching urns, 8.25in.
Estimate £300-500

Base metal of this clock is bronze, this is being sold as ormolu under the definition of gilt bronze, overall case looks to have been re-gilt within the past 20 years or so, main clock is lacking a top finial and the back two finials look like later replacements, back left finial is also a replacement so overall it looks like three blue ceramic balls are needed and four pointed ormolu finials, otherwise some slight chipping around the winding holes of the porcelain dial, along with a small section missing from the rim between 12 and 1pm, gilt hand looks appropriate so may be associated replacements, some slight wear to gilding around bottom left porcelain plaque. Movement looks complete if a little dirty, signed with the Emanuel maker's details, comes with a pendulum but bell and key are missing. The pair of candelabra match the case and one of them is rather loose and wobbly requiring re-tightening, both have also lost some form of mount or fitting which is evident by three threaded holes running around the top of the circular tier along with three further drill holes at the bottom of the triple columns, the pair of urns are of similar but not identical appearance, the chevroned fleur de lys style banding that shows on the columns of the clock and candelbra is repeated in a similar but not identical manner on the urns, the porcelain ball finials to the urns have both been attached with a flat headed screw which presumably is later and perhaps these balls were removed from the original clock although it must be noted that they are of slightly smaller diameter than the ones on the clock, otherwise the urns are in good order. Movement not tested for going or timekeeping.
