Lot 97 , A 19th century Flemish ebonised table cabinet, 21in.

A 19th century Flemish ebonised table cabinet, 21in.

A 19th century Flemish ebonised table cabinet, with bone stringing, the pair of doors opening to reveal an architectural interior fitted with an arrangement of drawers, marble columns and ormolu mounts, 21in.
Estimate £300-500

Exterior of the piece has numerous old mostly vertical splits running through the ebonised veneers, thin ivory stringing is rather discoloured with some small sections missing throughout, ebony veneer is lifting away on the lower part of the left side and the upper part of the right side, back panel is not veneered but just stained pine, top of cabinet once had a door which is now missing, looks like the right hand front door has had its front edge replaced, small key hole to top right but no key present, so doors are no longer lockable. Interior doors with old mirrors, upper section of casket lifts to reveal a 3 inch deep recess, interior of the rising door has two mirrored panels but lacks a central panel, inside front of the cabinet is lacking some mouldings from the top of the central marble columns, marble columns themselves are showing old damages running through them where it appears they have been broken in the past, the right side column looks like a later painted replacement, one gilt bronzed figure missing from the central deep drawer which has a hidden locking mechanism, one small section of moulding missing from the top right short drawer and further moulding missing from the lower base drawer, ebonised knobs to the top of the left and right side columns and look like later replacements, overall a period of cabinet that has seen a fair amount of distress over the years and requires a fair amount of restoration.
