A 19th century Chinese rosewood armchair, with central panelled splat carved with archaic motifs with traditional pierced back and sides, with rattan rectangular seat, on square section supports

The joints of the chair are a little rickety and where the scrollwork arms join the uprights at the back have been repaired, some of the other scrollwork has some repairs to it and on the end of the scrollwork on the right hand arm is a replacement M section, on the corners of the back uprights where the join the cresting rail there is glued repairs with some holes where the dowels once lived, the frieze beneath the seat has splits and glue repairs, possibly new sections added, the legs where they join the frame work beneath again glue repairs and some gaps where possibly pieced have chunked out, there are also a few nails in the back as well, the strechers appear to be the original examples, the front one having wear where feet have been rested upon it, again the joints a little loose, basically the chair has most of the original parts but has undergone extensive repairs and some replacements, there is a hardboard panel which has been added underneath the rattan seat with some additional later supports.
