A 17th century stumpwork panel depicting a mother and children in a garden, embroidered with stumpwork and metal thread with the central figures surrounded by fruiting trees, flowers, a palace, a parrot, a kingfisher, insects, a lion, a leopard and a pool containing a fish, 29cm x 39.5cm, label verso stating that the panel was worked by a Miss Solis, a relative of the late Rebecca Grove.

Condition:
Provenance - UK private collection, 1920s or earlier, thence by family descent. This stumpwork panel has been owned by a single Cotswold family for a number of generations dating back to the 1920s or earlier. The collection was formerly on display at the family home in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, UK before it was sold in the 1980s. The frame needs attention / replacing, the glass is dirty, needs a good clean, otherwise the panel is in generally good order for age, light blemishing / fading throughout.
