Lot 92 , A 17th century oak and pine lap desk, W.1ft. D.7.5in. H.6.75in., initialled IP
A 17th century oak and pine lap desk, with marquetry inlaid foliate decoration, W.1ft. D.7.5in. H.6.75in., initialled IP
Estimate £200-300
Very dark on the top making it hard to see the inlay. Initials I.P carved into the top. A small section missing from the front left corner and a shallow section missing from above the lock catch.
Lock catch has seen old repairs and rebuilding from underneath.
No key for lock. Traces of papering inside.
Sides and front are very dark again concealing the penwork decoration (this is better seen at the back which is lighter). Worming holes mostly around the base of the sides.
Small section missing from the top right corner of the back.
Overall an interesting box where all of the damage is ancient.
