Lot 112 , A 17th century English silkwork panel, 14.5 x 16in.

A 17th century English silkwork panel, 14.5 x 16in.

Estimate £300-500

There is some discolouration and staining down the left, right and centre of the embroidered panel, there are some tears to the ivory silk ground down the left side, in the centre around an insect and again the ivory ground has frayed on the right hand side and across the top towards the sun and particularly along the bottom and lower right, appears to be laid on some sort of canvas which is showing through in places, the colours are general good, it is probably in an 18th century ebonised frame which the back panel and edges have some old worm damage, this has not gone through to the embroidery itself though, evidence that the frame is gilded underneath the ebonising.
