Condition:
Image looking towards Vesuvius; paper undulating with some light creasing at the top of the clouds and possibly light diagonal scuffing bottom right. Black specs and dead insects trapped between the glass and the work but these do not appear to be touching or affecting the paint. Image with boatmen to the foreground; slight undulation of paper, one spot of damp damage on the right side near at 3 o’clock. Some scattered insect dirt and speckling which are loose on the paint but also one or two small fox marks notably near the central white cloud but a few other small dirt specs elsewhere. Both images with later plane card mounts, under glass in plain gold frames which have some small chips and losses. No labels verso
