Oil on canvas relined many years ago, canvas remains tight but paint is very dirty, with a fine craquelure running throughout, paint just starting to lift through the sitters left eye, further signs of slight raising near the bottom, housed in probably the original gilt gesso frame which is dirty and faded and splitting at the corners, two feint Christie's stencil marks verso 790HA and 8?8CK.
