Thomas Wheeler, London. A late 17th century burr elm longcase clock, the 10 inch dial with silvered chapter ring and signed at the base, subsidiary seconds dial and dated aperture, cherub head spandrels, the five pillar eight day movement with external locking plate striking on a bell, the case with formerly rising flat topped hood with spiral turned pilasters, the rectangular trunk door with lenticle glass, the crossbanded base with bun feet, H.6ft 6.25in.

Case - thick uniform surface finish, evidence of rising wood via vacant holes on back board, but there are no reciprocating grooves in hood. Interior of the case is pale and may have been scratched, southward appears to be original, there is little wear to the cheeks.
Dial - some slight wear, but the overall good, hands very clean, may be replacements, chapter ring, seconds and calendar have been re-silvered, number 'I' is of slightly different style on chapter ring to calendar and seconds but no evidence of being a replacement.
Movement: Functions, some pitting to the steel work, hammer shaft repaired, some knocking and rebushing to pivots, scape wheel maybe a replacement, gut lines replaced with synthetic lines.
