A Chinese export tortoiseshell circular box, c.1830-50, carved in high relief with figures amid pavilions and trees, the sides with a continuous landscape and the base unusually with two figures on horseback in a landscape, d. 10.8cm

The tortoiseshell on the top of the cover is a little dry and one of the faces of seated figure of a lady on the left hand side has worn or flaked off, on the interior there is some slight scratching consistent with age and use and a few tiny 'blisters' to the surface of the tortoiseshell, some slight wear to the base consistent with age and use otherwise in reasonable condition with no restoration or cracks detected.
