A French violin, attributed to Louis Guersan, Paris, c.1750, with two piece back medium curl, with similar wood to the sides and head, replacement neck, the varnish of orange brown colour with areas of reddish colour, later label inside, with repair bill from Leon Delunet (33 years with Hill & Sons, London), 110 West St., New York dated June 22 1933, length of back 35.5cm (14in.), cased

Provenance - the vendor's mother was a freelance professional classical violinist who performed with the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra.

There are some repaired hairline cracks to the top plate including one that goes through above the soundpost and beneath the bridge, there are also two repaired cracks to the back plate, there is wear to the varnish around all of the edges, to the neck and in the typical areas one would expect, there is particular wear to the corners of the C scrolls on the centre bout and some of the stringing inlay is missing to the bottom of the backplate and the top of the backplate, the neck is probably a replacement as the scroll has been later inset around the bottom peg, the violin comes complete with an original bill of repair from Leon Delunet date June 22nd 1933, we also believe that the label may be a later replacement but the violin is a genuine item by the maker.
