A 17th century carved whale's tooth scrimshaw, decorated with a portrait of Moses Cohen Henriques, Dutch pirate and advisor to Henry Morgan, 5.5in.

Numerous age cracks to the tusk, some of the cracks have opened up and there is wear around the tip of the tooth,some slight chipping around bottom edge, some of which are splinter chips, tooth looking very dried out with age, some evidence of old red paint in places.
The vendor purchased the whale tooth from a London specialist dealer in the last 20 years.
The other whale tooth pieces in the same belong to a different vendor who's great uncle was a great collector of antiques particularly those relating the Masons and Masonic Chapters, see also Lots 1, 405 and 406 in our sale.
