Abree, for the Author, 1743. * the author (a Canterbury Doctor, and correspondent of Sir Hans Sloane) produced this handbook to accompany his very scarce map - "A Geographical Delineation of The Country Sixteen Miles Round the City of Canterbury..." (on 4 large sheets, 1743); apparently the world's first geomorphological map. Sold together with another copy - without the title; sometime rebound blind and gilt ruled calf, gilt lettered upper cover and spine. sm. folio. (2)

1) prob lacks half title, title with hole at upper gutter margin clear of printing, save just touching v (of Valleys), and opposite at fore-edge margin 2 holes clear of printing, another same margin (but clear), inner joint cracked, bds. marked, inside reasonable; A2, B-Z2, Aa-Ff2; ex Margate Pl. with sm. stamp title verso; 2) some fading to upper bd and spine, e.ps replaced, gen. good, mod. pict. book plate, old ownership head of title. If not having the map's legendary rarity, a book v. hard to find.
