The Workes of that Great Monarch and Glorious Martyr... both Civil and Sacred. With a short view of the Life and Reign of that most blesses Prince from his Birth to his Buriall.... titled ruled in red, engraved portrait frontis. (by Wm Marshall) and inc. the Eikon Basilikon (with sep. illus, see note). Uniformly bound with first item. Hague: printed by Sam: Browne (but London for Richard Royston, 1658). *the Eikon - Reliquiae Sacrae Cardinae: The Purtraicture of His Sacred Majestie in his Solitudes and Sufferings: together with several additions relating to the depth of that most Religious and Blessed Prince... printed title (within decorated border), portrait frontis, emblem leaf (and an explanatory leaf preceding), engraved pictorial title (printed in red and black) within decorated border, 2nd portrait plate (Charles II as Prince of Wales, at p.209). Hague: printed by Samuel Brown (but London: for Richard Royston, 1658). A fine set, creditably realised - quite probably by the James Whatman whose crested bookplates are present, being one of the family of celebrated papermakers.

Reliquiae - old marginal note p.16, sl. stains p.5, some headlines prior to Eikon cut close, shaved and 1/2 cropped; Ikon - old ink scoring. pp.120/21, gen. good throughout. signatures: A2-8, B-Z8, Aa4, A4, B-Q8, RI, S8 [T-Z8], [Aa-Bb8], [Cc2], R8, U-Z8, Aa-Bb8, Cc4; pagination - (1),96,(1),355,(7),374,9-119, (8)pp. Ikon is Madan 64 (2nd issue), dated 1648 on engraved title, with corrected spelling of "mala"; at end of volume pp.121-123 are lacking (Hym to King Charles), apparently this is not uncommon.
