An early edition of Glasse’s influential cookery book, first published anonymously in 1747. With the facsimile signature of Hannah Glasse printed at the head of p. 1. The Appendix begins on p. 337 and is followed by the index.

Early ink ownership inscription “G: Walton” to the front free endpaper, together with later pencil inscriptions and drawings.

Condition:
Early calf with general rubbing, scuffing and surface wear, with some bumping to the edges and corners; evidence of restoration to the head and foot of the spine. Joints worn, particularly to the rear, but boards remain attached. Paper reinforcement to the inner hinges and gutters of some preliminary leaves. Front pastedown and front free endpaper heavily browned, the latter with ink and pencil inscriptions and pencil drawings to the verso. Preliminary and rear endpaper leaves loose or partially detached, with some tears at the gutters. Contents generally clean, with intermittent spotting and marking. Index leaves with some tears and damage. Text block otherwise generally secure and complete.
