An opal brooch, early 20th century, collet-set with a black opal measuring 20 x 17.4mm, mounted in gold, length 2.4 x 2.1cm, stamped 15CT, gross weight approximately 4.50 grams

Condition:
In a closed setting, but translucent sections towards the edge show the gold setting reflecting through the stone, in strong light (shown in extra condition image), meaning it is a solid black opal and not backed with dark ironstone as a doublet. Solely blue/green play of colour but very pretty and vivid. Knifewire border slightly bent but not obvious. Overall a beautiful brooch.
