Kim James was a British sculptor whose work combined figurative expression with modernist abstraction. He studied under David Bomberg at Borough Polytechnic and developed a distinctive sculptural language influenced by artists such as Jacob Epstein. During the 1950s and 1960s he exhibited widely in London, Paris and New York, gaining recognition for works that balanced structural rigour with expressive form. In 1969 he was selected to represent Great Britain at the Middelheim Sculpture Biennale alongside artists led by Henry Moore. His public commissions included 'The Mammoth', once Britain's largest steel sculpture, securing his place within post-war British sculpture.
