Attributed to Héloïse Leloir (1819-73), an attractive ivory portrait miniature brooch, France, circa 1863, of oval outline, depicting a young woman with a blue ribbon headband, within an openwork gold frame decorated with ribbon bow motifs, the reverse with a glazed compartment, portrait approximately 3.8 x 2.8cm, signed H. Leloir 1863, brooch length 5.2cm, brooch with French assay marks for 18ct gold, gross weight approximately 17.5 grams

Héloïse Leloir, née Colin (1819-73) was a painter and fashion illustrator during the Second French Empire. Daughter of the painter Alexandre-Marie Colin, who was a close friend of Eugène Delacroix, Héloïse was an accomplished artist in her own right, providing watercolour illustrations for literary works such as 'The Three Musketeers' and 'The Count of Monte Cristo', as well as illustrations for fashion publications such as 'La Mode Illustrée'.
