The Common Wax Seal of the Mayoralty of London, mid 16th century. A red wax impression of the Common Seal of the Mayoralty of London, appended on its original golden vellum tag which bears a partial handwritten inscription in contemporary hand. The seal depicts a gothic architectural scene with figures beneath canopied niches and the arms of the City of London in the lower register. With additional documentation as seen in photo.

Condition:
Well-struck, with some surface cracking; the vellum tag present but worn and torn in places. We believe the seal to be 16th century. The additional documentation (largely illegible) seems to bear a date of 1857.
