A gem-set and diamond brooch, early 20th century, designed as a bee, its wings set with rose-cut diamonds, its thorax a cushion-shaped sapphire, its abdomen a cabochon quartz cat's eye, with cabochon ruby eyes, to a gold bar brooch set with a pearl, length 5.1cm, pearl untested, gross weight approximately 4.5 grams, case stamped Carrington & Co., the case inscribed in gilt tooling 'TO KATE TERRY, A SMALL TOKEN OF SINCERE AFFECTION FROM GERALDINE GOULD. 1920.'
The inscription on the box possibly refers to Kate Terry (1824-1924), an acclaimed Shakesperian actress, sister of fellow actress Ellen Terry, and grandmother to actor and theatre director John Gielgud.
