A rare pair of late 16th / early 17th century orphrey appliquéd embroideries, depicting Saint Margaret of Antioch, portrayed standing on a lion, wearing a long robe, holding a cross and Saint Dorothy of Caesarea, portrayed standing, reading a book and holding a basket of carnations, each worked in gold and coloured silk threads, possibly Italian, both applied to Chinese fine Kesi woven satin silk panels, the embroideries 41cms, the panels 73 x 80cms.

The embroideries are strong in colour. The backing cloth has some staining in places
