A George III mahogany serpentine dressing chest, in the manner of William Vile and John Cobb, circa 1760,
the serpentine shaped top above four long graduated drawers with lion mask brass swing handles and rococo style brass escutcheons, the upper drawer with fitted compartments, lacking mirror, flanked by blind fret carved canted corners, on shaped bracket feet, concealing iron and lignum vitae castors, 82.5cm high, 124cm wide, 58.5cm deep

Lion-mask handles are related to commodes associated with Cobb when he became an independent cabinet-maker. Examples of these include: a pair of chest-of-drawers from Harewood House, Yorkshire also sold at Christie’s.
