A George III enamel, split pearl and ivory mourning brooch, circa 1783, of navette-shaped outline, with a glazed compartment of hairwork centring on an arrangement of gold festoons and oak leaves around an ivory plaque inscribed 'SACRED TO FRIENDSHIP', within a border of basse taille blue enamel and split pearls, the reverse inscribed 'Ann Bigland ob.31.January 1783', mounted in gold, length 3.7cm, gross weight approximately 8.5 grams, pearls untested. Condition:
In good condition, brooch fitting possibly later, catch seems to be more recently reattached with solder, each with discoloration to joins. Enamel in good condition, minor chip. Glass intact, with typical minor wear.
