A rare figurative American ‘bridal quilt coverlet’, designed by Marion Cheever Whiteside Newton, whose designs were originally widely published in magazines and sold during the 1940’s-50’s. Her ‘quilting kits’ were also sold through Saks Fifth Avenue. This blue and white block quilt, has detailed figurative appliqués of world cultural scenes relating to marriage in between large blue appliquéd quatrefoils. Backing white cotton. 214cm x 256cm. Condition - the fabric and colours are strong. There are a few brown marks which may need specialist cleaning. The backing has a few light fold marks.
