Eton interest - a commemorative William IV, ceremonial red velvet, gold metallic thread, tasselled and braided bag, mounted within a mahogany glazed cabinet. An old printed ticket in Latin mounted beneath: Pro More et Monte 1832. Vibrant Rex et Regina (For Custom and Mountain 1832 Long live the King and Queen). An Eton College motto “for custom and mountain” is associated with the Eton College Montem ceremony, ( Salt Hill Montem Mound being near). The ceremony was often attended by royalty, the date 1832 corresponds to King William IV and Queen Adelaide’s reign. Cabinet 53cm high x 40cm wide. Bag 36cm long. Condition - the velvet on the bag is worn but appears in good order.
