Provenance: The Collection of Philip North Brockedon (1822-1849) and thence by descent

Philip North Brockedon was educated as a civil engineer, and was favourite pupil of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, but sadly died of consumption at the age of 28, on 13 November 1849. He was the son of the 19th century English painter, writer and inventor, William Brockedon (1787-1854)
