Six 20th century crewel work ‘Tree of Life’ cream linen curtains. Worked at the base in coloured wools depicting a pastoral scene of a shepherd playing a flute amongst sheep, deer, squirrels and flowers with a dog chasing a fox. The main part of the curtain embroidered in classic Jacobean style crewel work depicting A Tree Of Life. Each curtain a slightly different width. All finished at the top with a decorative red band and a panel or panels of plain cream linen which match three ornately corded, swagged and tailed pelmets pelmets
Pelmets: 190cm wide x 42cm deep x 131cm long tail, 191cm wide x 41cm deep x 131long tail, 192cm wide x 42cm deep x 131cm long tail.
Curtains: 1)170cm wide x 394cm long (305cm crewel panel, 4cm red band, 85cm cream top) Condition - large water marks
2)152cm wide x 394cm long (305cm crewel panel, 4cm red band, 85cm cream top) Condition - stained in places, small rust stains, fold marks.
3)160cm wide x 394cm long (305cm crewel panel x 4cm red band x 85cm cream linen top) Condition - darns to linen fabric fold marks
4)114cm wide x 393cm long (274cm crawl panel plus 31cm crewel panel, 4cm red band, 84cm cream linen top). Condition - linen panel as two pieces in manufacture, stains near base and fold marks
5)118cm wide x 392cm long (292cm crewel panel, 4cm red band, 31cm cream panel +65cm cream panel - joined) Condition - linen has holes in places and small stains
6)127cm wide x 394cm long-(295cm crewel panel, 4cm red band, 30cm cream panel, joined to 65cm cream panel) Condition - torn and mended edges, two lengths in manufacture. Pelmets have some white paint in places that may benefit with the curtains from conservation cleaning and restoring.
