A reverse-carved and painted intaglio 'Essex crystal' brooch, late 19th century, set with a domed section of glass carved and painted to the reverse with a fox running through undergrowth, backed in mother of pearl, within a frame designed as a curved branch entwined with a flowering vine set with half pearls, measuring 3.2 x 2.4cm, mounted in gold, pearls untested

A lovely example, surface-reaching fracture to one corner, not obvious as hidden in painted undergrowth, seeming secure in mount. Some discoloration to mount. Overall in wearable condition. Gross weight 10 grams.
