A late 17th century Charles II stump work box. The box originally embroidered to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza in 1662. 31cm x 25.5cm deep.
Condition - sadly during its 400 plus years of existence, the box has become badly worn and discoloured with dust. Luckily there is still much of the original stump work on the cover of which many colours of the original embroidery can still be seen. The inside of the cover still has a fine pink silk lining, which has moth in places. The cover may be able to be brought back with the help of professional conservation cleaning and possibly put behind glass to preserve and conserve what still remains.
