Condition:
The portrait of Egyptologist Howard Carter’s mother by his brother William Carter is an intriguing image of a widow whose progeny would make the most notable discovery in the history of Ancient Egypt, the discovery of Tutankhamen. The artist, her son William would paint his brother Howard and several important figures of the day, and stands as a lynchpin in the late Edwardian style of the likeness shrouded in velvety dark tones. The painting belonged in the family of Henry Rushbury R.A., a friend of the artist, including his daughter and son-in-law the royal portrait painter Theo Ramos. *PLEASE NOTE - POSTAGE AND OR PACKING NOT AVAILABLE ON ANY PICTURE LOTS IN TODAYS SALE, COLLECTION OR COURIER RECOMMENDED*
