Condition:
One of Richard Carte's sons was the impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte, producer of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. For related lots to the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company see Gorringe's Music Sale 23rd October. Oil on original canvas in good clean condition, slight stretcher marks showing down the sides, a little dusty but no real faults noted, housed in the original gilt gesso frame which has a few small losses and later title plaque for the sitter, old typed label verso giving details of the sitter, along with various loose notes including one giving further details stating he was director of the Instrument makers company Rudal Rose & Carte.
