Two non-consecutive vellum leaves from an illuminated bible, containing elements of St Paul’s epistles to the Galatians, Ephesians, Thessalonians and to Timothy; perhaps English, second quarter of the 13th century, 296 x 216mm, two columns of 47 lines, each 180 x 61mm, written in black ink in a small gothic bookhand; versal initials, letters of running headings and chapter numbers alternately of red or blue, chapter initials alternately of red or blue with flourishing of the contrasting colour, with exaggerated descenders ton letters A and E; two illuminated letters P, both descending into the bottom margin, one encapsulating an image of the apostle Paul holding a text, the other with floral decoration; staves of red and blue and flourishing of the same colours; minor dampstaining to both folios.
