Hentzner: the hinted plates all have marginal damp-staining, some offsetting, upper hinge weakened, illegible name in ink on front pastedown and inscription in a different hand (1881); Lipsombe: lacking blanks, endpapers replaced, upper margin of title and preface leaf have been cut, no textual loss, browning throughout; Butcher- light spotting, internally neat and clean, upper hinge very fragile, illegible contemporary name on initial blank.
