Lot 245 , Jonathon Watson of London. A George III brass mounted mahogany eight day longcase clock, 49cm wide, 211cm high
Jonathon Watson of London. A George III brass mounted mahogany eight day longcase clock, the 12 inch arched brass dial with strike / silent, subsidiary seconds and date dials, five pillar movement with anchor escapement, the case with unusual brass columns flanking the hood and further brass pilasters running down flanking the trunk door, 49cm wide, 211cm high
£700-900
Condition:
Overall of a good rich reddish brown mahogany tone, a number of separations of the moulding across the top of the hood with old damage and crude repair to the top left corner of the door, door lock looks original but no key present, brass columns and pilasters rubbed but look original as do the ball finials, dial with old scuffing and scratching, hands oxidised, movement looks complete but neglected in recent years, seat board is slightly raised up with two thin strips of timber below it suggesting perhaps a marriage of movement to case, trunk door a little more faded than elsewhere on the case, has original lock with working key, minor dents, scuffs and flaws throughout the case, comes with two brass cased weights and a brass faced pendulum, extreme base of the case probably cut down and showing with more reddish tone along with a later plinth foot.
