A Chinese bamboo and Guangzhou ivory mounted bird cage, late Qing dynasty, with two Guangxu mark and period porcelain bird feeders (1875-1908), the bamboo cage with Guangzhou figure-carved ivory mounts to the finial, door and feet, the two porcelain bird feeders incised with landscape scenes highlighted in black pigment, six character Guangxu marks to base, this item qualifies under the UK less than 10% ivory exemption but will probably require a CITES certificate to be exported outside of the UK. Condition:
There are a few minor age cracks to the ivory elements, some slight discolouration and variation to the varnish on the bamboo, otherwise in good condition with no obvious damage or restoration. Both of the porcelain bird feeders have typical minor glaze imperfections, no chips, cracks or restoration detected. The six character mark on one of the birdfeeders is a little indistinct or worn.
